Bringing attention to the danger of
"voyeuristic photography and recording in vacation rentals"
to people in Japan and the World!
The "Japan Vacation Rental Security Committee (hereafter the
committee)" commenced a project through
crowdfunding platform READYFOR to give the results of vacation rental
voyeuristic photography and recording prevention surveys to Japanese government and vacation rental agency sites.

■Crowdfunding summary
The committee was set up by the victims of a voyeurism
incident in a vacation rental in Japan in 2014. Many of the victims of this
voyeuristic shooting and recording were foreign guests. The voyeurism lasted
for 2 years and affected over 100 guests.
This
incident was mainly caused by the structure of the vacation rental system. The
system as it is now is unfortunately capable of facilitating voyeuristic
crimes, which is why this project was set up.
This committee is not against vacation rental. We just
hope for vacation rentals that can provide everybody with a safe place to stay.
In this project we would like to issue a web survey to
investigate awareness of voyeuristic photography and recording prevention in vacation
rentals in order to encourage the implementation of counter steps. We will also use an English-language version of the survey to
gauge the awareness of foreign visitors.
